The search engine Cuil (pronounce “cool”) launched yesterday made much speak about him. Able to index 120 billion pages it is already compared with Google.
It is known that the creators Tom Costello (CEO) and Anna Patterson (VP Engineering) succeeded in raising 33 million dollars.

After a rapid seeks on the state of the domain names around the denomination “cuil”, it arises that a mean part of this sum was devoted to protection of the mark.

Indeed, Tom Costello has just launched a search engine of international scale but rare are the domain names “cuil” recorded by him.

It seems that only cuil.com is in the name of Tom Costello. Among the domain names of the principal extensions one falls on many carpark pages: .eu (European Union), .at (Austria), .be (Belgium), .de (Germany), .es (Spain). Are on sale on sedo (platform of domain names: cuil.asia, cuil.in (India), cuil.cz (Czech republic)

The domain name cuil.sk (Slovakia) and cuil.lt (Lithuania) were recorded yesterday! Second is recorded in the name of a Lithuanian registrar and redirects towards the www.cuil.com site. The registrar would have recorded it for protected the start up from the Lithuanian cybersquatting?

In connection with cuil.com, it seems that the two former employees of Google Inc. 4250 $ did not spend any more to acquire this domain name of 4 letters.

Initially recorded by a club of English fitness (see image above) the domain name was then repurchased by “Get One The Web Limited” to be put at sale to 2,450 $ then with 3,650$, 3925$, 4075$ and finally 4250$ in February 2007.

We very quickly will know if the former holder regreter will not resell the more expensive domain name!
