A tendency currently takes shape in the world of the domain names. More and more of companies include/understand the importance of the domain names for their business, they are thus increasingly numerous to want to invest in domain names of quality.
That it is a question of creation of a new mark, new an event, or quite simply of a new company, the companies do not hesitate today any more to repurchase an existing domain name.
Obviously a domain name of the second market will tell you expensive than a new domain name but these repurchases of existing domain names have several advantages:
- the first advantage is that the existing domain name profits already from one natural traffic. The traffic will depend of course on the use which will have been made by the former holders.
- the second advantage lies in natural visibility of the domain name in the search engines. The domain name being old, search engines one have time to index it. Moreover, the preceding holder with certainly spending time to optimize the Web site with key words, to register it in directories, where to make point bonds above.
- finally, the last advantage and by far most relevant, it is today difficult to find a domain name short, easy to memorize, pleasant to pronounce and still available in the principal extensions in particular in .com. Today there are not any more domain names available to 2, 3 or 4 characters. But according to verisign (the register of .com) in March 2008, 65% of the domain names corresponded to a site in several pages, 11% of the domain names were inactive and 23% returned towards only one page (page in construction or carpark page).
